- Could motor intervention programs have a positive association with the motor competence of children with typical development aged 6 to 10 years? – A Systematic ReviewPublication . Lopes, Nataniel; Matos, Rui; Jacinto, Miguel; Monteiro, Diogo; Ibáñez, SergioMotor competence plays a significant role in predicting physical activity in the youth and is an integral component of youth health and performance. The motor competence interact with physical activity during early childhood. This study aimed to synthesise evidence on the associations between motor competence and physical activity, training/sports practice, and physical education in children. The review was registered in International Register of Systematic Reviews and carried out in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines and the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluations framework. Twelve thousand one hundred and eighty-nine articles were found in the following databases: PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus. After the screening phase, the selection was reduced to 18 studies, all of which were randomised clinical trials that used validity and reliability methods, according to the eligibility criteria. The studies included a total sample of 2,858 children aged 6–10 years. As the analysis of the articles revealed, that all the intervention programs were beneficial for the development of motor competence, regardless of program (duration of program, weekly frequency and session duration) and instrument, as a proposal for the future, and based on the results of our research, it is proposing an intervention programme lasting 8 to 12 weeks, with sessions lasting 45 to 60 minutes and 2–3 times a week. The Test of Gross Motor Development, version 2, Test of Gross Motor Development Version 3 or KörperKoordinations Test für Kinder could be used as the proposed instrument for assessing motor competence.
- Evaluation of anthropometric characteristics and physical abilities in a soccer season: comparison between U-15, U-17 and U-19Publication . Silva, Rui; Morouço, PedroThe aim of this study was to examine the development of anthropometric characteristics and physical capacities in a sports season, in young soccer players. A total of 50 players, U-15 (n= 16, 14.0±0.1 years), U-17 (n= 14, 15.6±0.5 years) and U-19 (n= 20, 17.2±0.7 years) were monitored in 3 different moments: after the preparation period (pre-season), after the 1st competitive phase (mid-season) and after the 2nd competitive phase (post-season). To the anthropometric analysis, the height, body mass, muscle mass, fat mass and body girths were evaluated. The aerobic resistance, the work developed by the lower limbs during a vertical jump, the power of the lower limbs during a sprint, the agility and the flexibility were evaluated for the physical capacity analysis. Along the season, there was an increase in body mass and a stabilization of the fat mass due to an increase of the muscle mass. In general, regardless the age group, physical abilities improved from pre-season to mid-season, and then stabilized till the post-season. Understanding the variations through a season, according to the competitive environment and their developmental age, may be a useful tool for control and evaluation of the training process.
- Naturalistic Programs for Social Skills and Communication in Babies and Toddlers with Autism Spectrum Disorder - a Review of the LiteraturePublication . Lamoglia, Aliny; Sousa, Célia MariaThis article identified the scientific studies on naturalistic intervention programs in social and communication skills for babies and toddlers with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in international journals. The present study shows that naturalistic intervention programs for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) were effective in improving their performance in Social and Communication Skills. Naturalistic contexts are where interactions take place and can be modelled as ideal settings for intervention. These interventions minimize or neutralize the effects of ASD on the child's developmental path. In this sense, the importance of mediation/interaction is highlighted. Although clinical outcomes are important for understanding the development of children with ASD, they are not able to reproduce the systematicity necessary for delays in social behaviour and communication to be minimized.
